Postcards To a Friend

Since 2021 I have been collaborating with Danish artist and writer Sine Bang Nielsen on various projects. We connected online through the shared reality of having children whose needs more often than not required our presence in spaces far removed from artistic communities and opportunities.

From this position, we began creating together. First through a shared online diary, then through an anthology on interruptions, which I edited and Sine contributed to, and now through an ongoing postcard project.

Our postcards to one another emerge from our shared experience of being relatively tied to home, children, and care work. From here, we explore who has access to which communities, what kinds of communities can be created from an otherwise excluded position, and what kinds of art can be made in between children’s hospital appointments, sick days, and domestic labour.

Through this project, we seek to hack the system and create an alternative artistic community – one that enables participation even when we do not always meet conventional expectations of productivity and performance.

A part of the postcards will feature in the forthcoming artistic research anthology Kollektiv Kunstforskning (Collective Art Research), edited by Milly Breyen Hauschildt et al., Aleatorik 2027.
